Your Day Master (日主) is the Heavenly Stem of your Day Pillar. In a Bazi chart, it represents your core nature and the point from which every other element is interpreted.
Element and polarity
There are ten Day Masters because each of the Five Elements appears in both Yang and Yin form. The element describes the type of movement—growth, expression, stability, refinement, or adaptation—while polarity describes its style. Yang tends to feel more direct, outward, and structural; Yin tends to feel more receptive, detailed, and internally responsive. Neither is better, and both need the rest of the chart for context.
The ten Day Masters
Yang Wood 甲 is compared with a tall tree; Yin Wood 乙 with vines or flowers. Yang Fire 丙 resembles the sun; Yin Fire 丁 a lamp or flame. Yang Earth 戊 is mountain-like; Yin Earth 己 resembles cultivated soil. Yang Metal 庚 is raw metal or a blade; Yin Metal 辛 is refined metal or jewelry. Yang Water 壬 resembles the ocean; Yin Water 癸 resembles rain, mist, or dew.
Strength depends on context
A Day Master is never judged from its element alone. The birth month supplies the seasonal climate, while the remaining stems and branches may support, drain, control, or echo it. A Wood Day Master born in spring does not begin from the same condition as one born in autumn. Strength is therefore relational: a chart may be strong, weak, balanced, or transformed depending on the complete pattern.
A lens, not a label
Your Day Master is a useful entry point for tendencies, relationships, work style, and timing, but it is not a personality label. Two people with the same Day Master can express it very differently because their seasons, branches, combinations, and luck cycles differ. The full chart shows what supports the central energy, what challenges it, and how its expression changes across circumstances.
